HC Deb 21 November 1938 vol 341 cc1369-70W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Minister of Transport how it is that formalities have not yet been concluded for freeing the Sutton-Courtenay toll bridge in spite of the fact that all arrangements between the two county councils affected (Berkshire and Oxfordshire) have been completed and that repairs have actually been commenced on the bridge, although the private company are still in possession and charging tolls; and whether he will take steps to expedite the formal handing over and freeing of the bridge, thus removing a cause of annoyance to inhabitants on both sides of the river?

Mr. Burgin

I understand that the completion of the conveyance has been unavoidably protracted because of the time required to obtain the signatures of all the trustees of the bridge. It is now expected that all formalities will be completed and the bridge freed from tolls within three weeks.
