Foxasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he has considered the copy of a resolution from the Oxfordshire County Council, drawing attention to the necessity for devising means for alleviating the present heavy burden on the county ratepayers and suggesting various means by 1085W which this might be achieved; and whether he anticipates that it will be possible to proceed with any of the detailed suggestions made?
Mr. LindsayMy Noble Friend has considered the resolution in question. The period of the special grant of 50 per cent. on capital expenditure on educational re-organisation and development has already been extended, as announced in Circular 1464, of which I am sending the hon. Baronet a copy. My Noble Friend does not see his way to propose legislation to amend the Education Act of 1936 in the manner suggested in the resolution.
