The incidence of employment in a particular district is not necessarily governed by the number of persons employed at mines which either opened or closed during the period under review. Consideration must be given to the fluctuations in the numbers employed at other mines.
Such figures of wage-earners as are available for the Swansea Inspection Division, viz., 48,000 at 15th December, 1928, and 47,500 at 11th December, 1937, show little change in the number of wage-earners employed during the period.
