§ Major Carverasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that, whilst the East Riding County Council have agreed to contribute to the cost of freeing the tolls and rebuilding the present bridge at Selby, the West Riding Council Council refuses to help and are holding up the scheme; and whether he will take the matter up with this council with a view of expediting a much needed improvement between the East and West Ridings?
§ Mr. BurginIn reply to the first part of the question I greatly regret that the West Riding County Council have not seen their way to agree to contribute to the scheme. As regards the second part, I have made an offer to the local authorities concerned, which I intend to leave open for the present, but I have no power to compel its acceptance.
