HC Deb 09 November 1938 vol 341 c130W
Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether His Majesty's Government contemplate any additional financial assistance to the Palestine Government as a result of the present situation in Palestine?

Mr. M. MacDonald

Yes, Sir. The disturbed conditions in Palestine during last year have caused both a serious shrinkage of revenue and a heavy and increasing expenditure on public security. It has become clear that the Palestine Government is unable to meet these unavoidable liabilities from the resources of a depleted civil budget. Certain measures of financial relief are therefore necessary and proposals will be laid before Parliament in due course in the form of a Supplementary Estimate.
