§ EARL STANHOPEMy Lords, as I think many of your Lordships know, most members of the Government on the Front Bench have to attend a certain public festival to-morrow, and therefore we should have to leave this House at a very early time in the afternoon. I do not know whether in those circumstances your Lordships would agree that the Amendment, which was referred to by the noble Lord opposite as one that was to be moved on behalf of his Party, should be taken on Thursday rather than to-morrow, when perhaps the debate would be likely to be rather short and have to be adjourned till the following day. I am entirely in the hands of the House about it, but I think, as the matter in question has been already discussed, we ought to get through the discussion in one day, and, therefore, if we meet at 4.15 p.m. on Thursday it would be better than having a short debate to-morrow and a further postponement till Thursday.
