§ Mr. Manderasked the Home Secretary whether a special organisation has now been set up to deal with the question of Austrian refugees; and what Departments of State are represented on it?
§ Mr. Lloyd:I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on the 23rd instant to a question by the hon. Lady the Member for the English Universities (Miss Rathbone). As explained in the reply to the hon. and gallant Member for Wandsworth, Central (Colonel Nathan) on 3rd May, the introduction of a visa requirement for Germans and Austrians will enable the cases of intending immigrants from those countries to be carefully examined. In dealing with cases of refugees it is already the practice of the Home Office to maintain close contact with the refugee organisations concerned and where necessary to consult any other Government Department which may be interested.
