§ Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has taken any action regarding the frequency of the administration of corporal punishment on prisoners in Northern Rhodesia; and whether the recent records show a decline in the number of such punishments?
Mr. M. MacDonald:The question of restricting the offences for which corporal punishment may be awarded by the Courts is under consideration. The returns for the year 1937, which are the latest available, show a very considerable decline over those for earlier years.
