§ Sir K. WoodResearch on the heavy-oil compression ignition engine is continuing and recent progress has been encouraging. But the results so far attained still show a marked disparity in performance as compared with petrol engines. No engines of the compression ignition type are in use in service air craft but flight development trials of one such engine are taking place.
