§ Mr. Jaggerasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will give particulars as to the grants made in support of adult education in Scotland for the last complete year for which figures are available, together with the names of organisations receiving such grants and the amount of the grant in each case; also similar figures for each of the 10 previous years?
Mr. Wedderburn:Numerous classes for adults are provided by the Scottish Education Authorities. But as each authority receives a block grant in support of its whole educational expenditure, not specific grants in aid of particular items, it is not possible to give the figures asked for in the question. Apart from the Education Authorities, the only organisation receiving grant for adult education is the Newbattle College which was opened in January, 1937, and which received a grant of £373 for the period ended 31st July, 1937.
