HC Deb 04 May 1938 vol 335 cc894-5W
Captain Plugge

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether, in view of the decision that British Airways, Limited, is to be permitted to purchase and use foreign aircraft so long as no satisfactory British machines of proved type are available in this country, he can state what arrangements are to be made for the trying and proving of British commercial machines during future months, with a view to ensuring that the present deficiency shall be made good as soon as possible?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead:

Two types are now under development of civil aircraft which may provide suitable replacements for foreign aircraft at present in use. One of these types has already begun its flying tests, and the other is expected to do so before the end of the present year.
