HC Deb 04 May 1938 vol 335 c895W
Sir R. Aske

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he will now favourably consider the establishment on Tyneside of a factory or factories for the manufacture of aeroplanes and material, in view of the unemployment existing in that area?

Earl Winterton:

My Noble Friend does not consider, having regard to all relevant considerations, that it would be desirable to establish a factory for the manufacture of aircraft on Tyneside. But Tyneside in common with other Special Areas will continue to receive preference wherever possible in the placing of contracts for ancillary material.
