HL Deb 08 March 1938 vol 108 c16WA
VISCOUNT CECIL OF CHELWOOD

asked His Majesty's Government whether they intend to propose to the League of Nations to use its "moral force" to prevent German aggression on Austria; and, if so, in what form.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT HALIFAX)

His Majesty's Government do not in present circumstances contemplate taking any initiative in connection with events in Austria. In the event of an aggression being committed against a State Member of the League, the machinery of the League would of course be available, but it is impossible in hypothetical cases to say what procedure the League would decide to adopt.
