HC Deb 02 June 1938 vol 336 cc2264-5W
Mr. Watson

asked the Minister of Health whether he will state the total number of dwelling-houses of all types and sizes erected in the years 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, and 1937, and, if it is possible, to assess them as between houses up to £1,000 in value, £1,000 to £2,000, and £2,000 and above?

Mr. Elliot:

The following statement shows the number of dwelling-houses provided in England and Wales during each year ended 30th September, from 1933 to 1937 inclusive.

Year ended 30th September— Number of houses provided.
1933 218,313
1934 313,669
1935 318,644
1936 339,528
1937 337,196

These numbers exclude houses of a rateable value exceeding £78 (£105 in greater London).

Information as to the number of these houses which fall within the several ranges of capital value specified in the question is not available in my Department, but in the series of half-yearly Stationery Office publications entitled "Housing, House Production, Slum Clearance, etc." first issued in 1934, particulars are given of the numbers of houses within certain ranges of rateable values provided by private enterprise without State assistance during each half-year from 1st October, 1933, to 30th September, 1937.
