HC Deb 02 June 1938 vol 336 c2269W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the fact that the Great Western Railway Company, in agreement with the Ministry, has decided to defer schemes of development involving the expenditure of between £2,250,000 and £3,000,000, his Department has arranged to defer other schemes of capital expenditure till employment is less general; and will he state the nature and extent of the same?

Mr. Burgin:

There has been no general postponement of the works to be carried out under the Railways (Agreement) Act, 1935. My decision to allow an extension till 1st January, 1945, of the date for completing certain schemes of the Great Western Railway Company was taken after careful consideration of the circumstances relating to the particular works in question.
