HC Deb 02 June 1938 vol 336 cc2262-3W
Mr. V. Adams

asked the Minister of Pensions whether he is aware that when a war widow re-marries an uninsured man she loses her rights to a pension; and whether he will introduce legislation to enable such war widows to resume their pension rights on the death of their second husbands?

Mr. Ramsbotham:

The effect of my hon. Friend's suggestion would be to place widows in the circumstances indicated in a better position than if the second husband had been insured. I would suggest to my hon. Friend that the appropriate safeguard for the widow in such cases would be voluntary insurance under the Widows', Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions (Voluntary Contributors) Act, 1937.
