THE EARL OF MACCLESFIELDasked His Majesty's Government if an undertaking was given in February, 1937, that the speed limit imposed on West Way should be imposed for three months only and, if so, under what authority was such undertaking given.
THE EARL OF ERNEOn February 8, 1937, the Minister of Transport announced his intention to impose a speed limit in West Way for a period of three months in order that the Hammersmith Borough Council might have time to institute guard rails and traffic lights. The Order made in respect of West Way did not in terms provide for expiration on a specified date, and the Minister has not felt that he would be justified in revoking it.
The Minister has power under the Road Traffic Act, 1934, after giving public notice and after consultation with the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee, to make Orders which have the effect of imposing the speed limit on any length of road in the London Traffic area and also to revoke Orders so made.
