§ Mr. Storeyasked the Minister of Transport how many men are being employed 1817W in the construction and improvement of trunk roads; and whether any young men who have completed a course at an instructional centre have yet been placed in employment on such work in accordance with the arrangements made between himself and the Minister of Labour?
§ Mr. BurginThe number of men employed on road works throughout the country is upwards of 20,000. The number employed solely on trunk roads could not be ascertained without a detailed analysis of all road improvement schemes to distinguish between trunk road and other schemes. As regards the second part of the question, I understand from my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour, that the information is not immediately available, but that he is making inquiries.
