As regards item 24, from 1st April, 1937, the method of finance of the Road Fund was altered under Section 33 of the Finance Act, 1936, and the figure for 1937–38 is not comparable with that for 1936–37; in particular the 1937–38 figure does not include the contribution of £6,459,000 made before that year from the Road Fund towards the Block Grant paid to local authorities.

23 falls directly upon the Budget in both years. The amount recoverable from the fund in respect of the two items mentioned may be estimated at £670,000 in 1936–37 and £715,000 in 1937–38. The net total charge on voted moneys for the items specified therefore is £84,554,420 in 1936–37 and £92,554,660 in 1937–38.
