Mr. Short

asked the Home Secretary whether he will state the total number of the Borstal population; the name and situation of each institution; and the number in each institution?

Particulars about Borstal institutions are given in the Directory published by the Home Office of which I am sending a copy to the hon. Member. Since that Directory was published a new institution has been started at Hollesley, Woodbridge, Suffolk. The present population of each of the institutions is as follows:

In addition a part of the prison establishment at Wandsworth has been appropriated as a Borstal institution for youths whose licences have been revoked, and the number at present at Wandsworth is 103.
