§ Sir R. Youngasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he will state the number of artificers who are qualified educationally and professionally for sublieutenant (E); the number promoted last year; and the number likely to be promoted this year?
Mr. CooperEight engine-room artificers were promoted to acting sub-lieutenant (E) in 1937. At present there are 15 artificers who have passed the necessary examination and are within the age limits. The promotion of these candidates will depend upon whether they are recommended and considered suitable for commissioned rank.
