asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he will state the number of Liverpool men who presented themselves for enlistment into the Royal Navy during the year 1937, and the number who were rejected by reason of their "poor physique during the same period?

The number of candidates who applied for entry in the Royal Navy at the Liverpool Headquarters Recruiting Office during 1937 is 2,439, and the number rejected over the same period, for the reason that they were below the physical and medical standard required, is 1,137.
