§ Mr. Manderasked the Minister of Health whether he will give consideration to the possibility of permitting contributors under the Widows', Orphans', and Old Age Pensions (Voluntary Contributors) Act, 1937, the option of paying a lump sum contribution upon entrance in order that they may be brought into benefit regarding widows' pensions immediately?
§ Sir K. WoodI am afraid that an arrangement on the lines suggested is not possible in a scheme which contains no provision for the rejection of applicants on account of the state of their health. The waiting period laid down in the Act is, in effect, a substitute for medical examination.
