Mr. De la Bèreasked the Postmaster-General whether he will take steps to facilitate better postal arrangements from Evesham for letters posted after 6.30 p.m., since letters posted late in Evesham arrive in London and other parts of the country at various times; and, since this is caused to a large extent by lack of any late mail trains on local lines and Evesham district letters have to go round by Gloucester and Cheltenham, whether he would urge on the railway companies concerned the necessity of better facilities in this respect?
§ Major TryonLetters for first delivery in London, Birmingham and a number of Midland counties can at present be posted at Evesham up to 7.45 p.m. (8.30 p.m. at the head office). I am glad to inform the hon. Member that arrangements are in hand to improve the facilities by means of a motor road service so that letters posted up to 8.45 p.m. (9.30 p.m. in certain boxes) will secure first delivery in the West of England, South Wales and the greater part of the southern counties, and at Liverpool, Manchester, and other important towns.
