HC Deb 04 February 1938 vol 331 cc551-2W
Mr. Donner

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether any recent communications have passed between him and the Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa relating to the future of one or more of the South African Protectorates; and, if so, will he make a statement?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I have been in communication with the Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa with a view to considering what further steps are practicable to enable the policy with regard to the High Commission Territories in South Africa set out in the Aide Mémoire of 1935 (Cmd. 4948) to be given full effect. The discussion of this matter is still proceeding, and I am not at present in a position to make any statement.
