Mr. Ridley

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he will state the number of children attending elementary schools under the authority of the Lancashire County Council; the number who are being provided with free milk; and the average quantity of milk per child per day?

Mr. Lindsay

The number of children on the registers of public elementary schools in the area of the Lancashire County Council on 1st October, 1937, was 119,127. The number of children who received free milk in December, 1937, was 10,806. The average quantity of milk per child per day in March, 1937, which is the latest date for which the Board have information on this point, was two-thirds of a pint.

Mr. Lindsay

The number of children on the registers of the public elementary schools in the area of the Derbyshire County Council on 1st October, 1937, was 65,778. The number of children who received free milk in December, 1937, was 5,505. The average quantity of milk per child per day in March, 1937, which is the latest date for which the Board have information on this point, was one-third of a pint.
