HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2903W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will bring before Parliament in the near future legislation to deal on a national basis with the insurance of property against the risks of bombardment from the air, or what are the Government's intentions in regard to that matter?

Captain Wallace

I would refer the hon. and learned Member to the reply which I gave on Monday to my hon. Friend the Member for Chester (Sir C. Cayzer).

Mr. W. R. Duckworth

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the absence of any State insurance scheme against war risks is having a detrimental effect, not merely on property values, but also in the transaction of a large volume of business appertaining to property, such as buying and selling and the raising of mortgages; and whether, with the object of stimulating public confidence, he can now make any statement as to the intentions of the Government on this matter?

Captain Wallace

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave on Monday to my hon. Friend the Member for Chester (Sir C. Cayzer).
