HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2917W
Mr. Trevor Cox

asked the Minister of Transport whether in view of the numbers of persons unemployed in North-East Cheshire, the following approved road schemes could not be expedited: proposed Hyde-Romiley Road, Bennett Street to Manchester Road by-pass road, road from Mottram old road to Godley Arches, so as to provide more work in this district and to improve road communications?

Mr. Burgin

I understand that the Cheshire County Council and Hyde Borough Council have under consideration the line for a new road between Hyde and Romiley. When the details have been settled, any application which may be made for a grant from the Road Fund will have my immediate attention. I have no information as to the town council's intentions in regard to the other two roads to which my hon. Friend refers.
