HC Deb 21 December 1938 vol 342 c2902W
Mr. Burke

asked the Home Secretary whether he has arrived at any conclusion as to the advisability of making regulations under the Factories Act for the elimination of shuttle kissing in weaving sheds?

Mr. Lloyd

A committee of representatives of employers and operatives, with a member from the Cotton Industry Research Association, was set up by agreement, under the chairmanship of the Superintending Inspector of Factories at Manchester, to go into this matter. They considered that in the first instance further experiments with hand-threaded shuttles were desirable, and such experiments have since been proceeding. I understand that a further meeting of the committee is proposed for next month, to consider results. It would thus be premature at present for my right hon. Friend to reach any conclusion as to the issue of regulations on the subject.
