HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1633W
Mr. T. Williams

asked the Minister of Labour how many persons were registered as unemployed in the Thorne area at the latest date for which figures are available; how many persons were in receipt of unemployment allowances on the same date; and what percentage these combined figures represent of the insured population in the area?

Mr. E. Brown

At 14th November, 1938, the number of unemployed persons, aged 14 years and over, on the registers of Thorne Employment Exchange was 1,328, including 716 persons with applications authorised for unemployment allowances (other than applications for allowances in supplementation of insurance benefit). These figures include uninsured as well as insured persons. The percentage rate of unemployment among insured persons, aged 16–64 at the same date was 17.2 per cent.
