HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1631W
Captain Plugge

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the growing difficulty experienced by members of local government councils in dealing with the business of such authorities in view of some financial interest they may have as property-owners or as members of co-operative societies; and whether he will institute an inquiry into the whole matter?

Mr. Elliot

I understand that my hon. and gallant Friend is referring to the case where public business may be impeded by reason of the disability for voting imposed on members of a local authority financially interested in a contract or other matter. I would remind him that I have power to remove this disability, in proper circumstances, on application by the authority. In the circumstances I do not consider that any special inquiry is called for.
