HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 cc1628-9W
Sir N. Grattan-Doyle

asked the Prime Minister whether he will suggest to the German Government that they should arrange for one of the leading German daily newspapers to be published with an English translation for external circulation; and, similarly, will he take steps with a view to the daily issue of a verbatim German translation of a leading British newspaper which the German Government will admit for circulation in Germany, and thus enable the two nations to be acquainted with events in both countries?

Mr. Butler

While His Majesty's Government have every desire that the British and German peoples should be more closely acquainted, my Noble Friend considers that the difficulties inherent in my hon. Friend's suggestion are too great to enable him to accept it.
