HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1626W
Mr. McEntee

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he is aware of the varying widths of stretchers issued by his own Department, by the War Office, and by various manufacturers; that there is also a variation in the width of stretcher-runs in ambulances and ambulance trailers; that local air-raid precautions committees using more than one kind are finding that stretchers are not inter-changeable; and will he endeavour to secure a standard width in stretchers and ambulance runs, so as to avoid the danger caused by varying sizes?

Sir J. Anderson

The stretchers issued by Government Departments for air-raid casualty work are uniform in width with those of the War Office, and there is corresponding uniformity in the ambulance fittings. There may be a certain divergence on the part of some of the local ambulance authorities; but in the plans now being made for emergency ambulance services every effort is being made to secure complete uniformity in these matters.
