§ Mr. ButlerAs the late Foreign Secretary informed the House on 14th February last, the number of claims in respect of British losses arising out of the Spanish hostilities and noted by His Majesty's Government is very considerable, but in many cases no indication of the sums involved has yet been obtained, since the losses are still accumulating and it has often been impossible as yet to assess the extent of the damage. This statement applies equally to claims against the Spanish Government and to those against the Burgos authorities.
