§ Sir R. Rankinasked the President of the Board of Trade what proportion of British re-exports to Russia during the first 10 months of this year were carried in British vessels; and whether he proposes to take any steps to provide for the increase of this percentage in the near future?
§ Mr. StanleyWith regard to the first part of the question, I regret that the in-information desired is not available in respect of broken periods of a calendar year. In 1937, 2 per cent. (by value) of re-exports from this country to the Soviet Union were carried in British vessels, as compared with 25 per cent. in 1936. As regards the second part of the question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave on 15th November to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Wycombe.
