HC Deb 12 April 1938 vol 334 cc953-4W
Sir R. Gower

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can state the quantity of lager beer imported into this country from Denmark during the 12 months prior to the last increase of duty on that commodity, and for the 12 months subsequent thereto?

Captain Wallace

The duty on imported non-Empire beer was last increased on the 22nd April, 1936. Imports of lager beer, as such, are not separately distinguised in the trade returns of the United Kingdom, but imports consigned from Denmark of beer of descriptions other than mum, spruce, or black beer, or Berlin white beer and other similar preparations, amounted to 16,813 bulk barrels during the 12 months ended April, 1936, and to 20,039 bulk barrels during the following 12 months.
