HC Deb 08 April 1938 vol 334 cc688-9W
Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the Home Secretary whether he can state the number of applications for certificates of disablement made to the Silicosis Medical Board and the number of certificates granted, the number of applications made for certificates that death was caused by silicosis and the number of certificates granted, from among coal miners in Great Britain, with separate particulars for anthracite miners of South Wales, for each year from 1928 to 1937, respectively?

Mr. Lloyd

The Medical Board did not deal with cases arising among coal miners before the 1st June 1931. The following are the figures since that date except that the number of applications for certificates from anthracite miners for the years 1931–1935 are not available.

system has now been operative since 1st February, bearing in mind that the directional system is largely useless and liable to give a false sense of security unless pilots of aircraft in mutual proximity in cloud are told when and to what datum to adjust their altimeters?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

A notice to airmen will be issued very shortly.
