§ Mr. Dobbieasked the Prime Minister (1) whether he will ask the representa- 32W tives of His Majesty's Government in Cadiz for a report as to the number of German troops who have landed at Cadiz since 1st March, 1938, their dates of landing, and their destination;
(2) whether he has received any information from the British authorities in Algeciras, Ceuta, Seville, and Bilbao as to the landing of Italian and German troops and arms since 1st March, 1938; and, if not, whether he will ask these authorities for information on the subject?
§ Mr. ButlerAs I have frequently explained, it is the function and practice of His Majesty's Consular Officers to report regularly on matters which may affect British interests and I am satisfied that they do so. It is, however, impossible for them to obtain comprehensive information on matters of this kind.
