§ R. Robinsonasked the Minister of Labour whether he can make a statement on the present position of holidays with pay in industry; whether the committee on the subject has yet reported; and whether he will publish the committee's findings together with the evidence?
§ L. Smithasked the Minister of Labour whether he has received or when he expects to receive the report of the Royal Commission dealing with the holiclays with pay issue; and whether the matter will be dealt with by the Government during the early part of next Session?
Lyonsasked the Minister of Labour whether he can make a statement as to any agreement which has been reached by any section of industry on the matter of annual paid holidays?
§ Mr. E. BrownI am glad to say that during recent months there has been an increase in the number of collective agreements providing holidays with pay in industry, particulars of which I am sending to the hon. Members. I estimate that the number of workpeople now covered by collective agreements between organisations of employers and workpeople which provide for paid holidays is between 2½ and 2¿ millions. There has also been an increase in the number of individual firms giving holidays with pay, but there are no figures available as to the number of workers employed by such firms. The Committee, under the chairmanship of Lord Amulree, has a considerable amount of important evidence still to hear, but will, I am sure, make its report at the earliest possible date. I cannot make any statement as to consequent action till I have seen and considered its report.
