HC Deb 24 November 1937 vol 329 cc1242-3W
Major Rayner

asked the Minister of Labour whether the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee have yet reported to him upon the question of bringing private chauffeurs, grooms and gamekeepers into unemployment insurance; and whether he has come to any decision on the matter?

Mr. E. Brown

Yes, Sir. The Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee made their Report on 23rd October and copies are being made available to Members this afternoon. The Committee recommend that chauffeurs should be brought into the general scheme of unemployment insurance and in accordance with the statutory procedure I have referred draft regulations for this purpose to the Committee for report. The Committee further recommend that the other classes of outdoor private domestic servants should be brought into the agricultural scheme of unemployment insurance. Proposals for giving effect to this recommendation are included in the Unemployment Insurance Bill which was introduced yesterday and copies of which will be available this evening.
