HC Deb 24 November 1937 vol 329 c1233W
Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the pylon system of carrying electric wires does not improve the appearance of the country and that in the case of air attack it would be vulnerable; and, in view of this, will he have an examination made of the whole position to see if it is more practicable and safer to convey the electricity underground?

Mr. Burgin

No, Sir. The matter has already been carefully examined and, having all considerations in mind, I am satisfied that the hon. Member's suggestion is not practicable.
