HC Deb 24 November 1937 vol 329 c1244W
Sir T. Cook

asked the Minister of Labour whether arrangements can be made to prevent contractors, erecting aerodromes and other Government buildings in rural areas, from depriving adjoining farms of agricultural labour?

Mr. E. Brown

It is already the practice of the Air Ministry and the Office of Works when letting contracts for aerodrome or building construction in rural areas to point out to contractors the desirability of avoiding withdrawal to the temporary work involved in the contracts of men who normally are permanently employed in agriculture. I am not aware that any considerable number of permanent agricultural workers have left the farms for this purpose.
