Mr. LindsayI am sending the hon. Member a list of the local education authorities in whose areas some provision is made for school canteens as distinct from feeding centres. Apart from the fact that in London provision is made for school canteens in selective central schools but not in ordinary public elementary schools, no information is available as to the extent to which such provision is made in central and senior schools as distinct from other public elementary schools. The meals provided at the centeens are in all cases dinners, and the charge made to the children is usually from 2½d. to 4d. a meal, or from 1s. to 1s. 6d. a week for five meals.
