§ Mr. Grovesasked the First Commissioner of Works whether, in connection with the improvements in the lighting arrangements in the House of Commons, tests were made of the power of illumination respecting various types; if he will state over a given period of one-quarter of a year the lumen-maintenance, life-maintenance, and efficiency-maintenance of the electric-light bulbs used; and whether, before contracts are placed for bulbs, his Department is satisfied that the standard of the National Physical Laboratory is fulfilled?
§ Sir P. SassoonThe power of illumination of various types was taken into consideration on the selection of lamps used in connection with recent improvements in the lighting arrangements in this building: the standards required in respect of lumen-maintenance, life-performance and average efficiency throughout life are those contained in the specification of the British Standards Institution. It is not practicable to make tests of individual lamps while in actual use, but all lamps purchased by my Department are required to conform with the British Standard Specification, and batches from each consignment are regularly tested to see that they do so conform.
