HC Deb 16 November 1937 vol 329 cc227-8W
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that aged inmates of institutions do not receive weekly pocket money out of their pensions unless they are receiving medical or surgical treatment; and whether he will issue regulations, or take other steps, to allow those who are not ill to receive a part of their pension by way of pocket money each week, in view of the fact that the cost of their maintenance is less, fewer extras are provided for them, and their opportunities for spending are greater?

Mr. Bernays

This matter could not be dealt with by regulations and I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given on the 11th instant to a similar question by my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Cardiff, South (Captain A. Evans).
