HC Deb 16 November 1937 vol 329 cc239-40W
Captain Macnamara

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that students at the Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, live as sergeants in the sergeants' mess and have to bear the consequent expenses of sergeants even though they may be themselves only corporals or lance-corporals drawing the pay of their rank; and whether, in view of this and of the fact that a military music student has other expenses to keep up on account of his work, such as the provision of civilian evening dress, he will authorise the temporary promotion of all students at Kneller Hall to the rank of lance-sergeant with pay and allowances accordingly?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I am making inquiries and will communicate with my hon. and gallant Friend.
