consul at Corunna stating that the release of all vessels has now been withdrawn by the authorities at Salamanca; what steps the Government is taking to secure the release of these vessels; and will he give any indication as to the length of time these vessels are expected to be retained?

Viscount Cranborne

As my hon. and gallant Friend will remember from the statement which my right hon. Friend made on 8th November, the Salamanca authorities have agreed to the release of all British vessels detained by them. I am aware that the release of the "Dover Abbey" was temporarily held up. But I am glad to be able to state that this vessel has now left, together with all the other vessels previously detained by the Salamanca authorities, except one. I have every hope that this last vessel will very shortly be able to leave.
