HC Deb 16 November 1937 vol 329 c233W
Sir A. Salter

asked the right hon. and gallant Member for Rye, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, how long it is since the Commission began to plant on the Ennerdale estate, in Cumberland; how soon they expect to have any trees ready for felling on that estate; and whether they have made an estimate of the cost that must be incurred in making the roads out of Ennerdale fit for the transport of timber?

Sir G. Courthope

It is eleven years since the Forestry Commission began to plant on the Ennerdale Estate. The first thinnings should begin approximately nine years hence. No detailed estimate of the cost of making timber roads has been made.
