HC Deb 11 November 1937 vol 328 cc1857-8W
Mr. Sexton

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he will state the number of certificated teachers who left colleges in 1937, and the number of such teachers who have been appointed to permanent posts under the Board of Education?

Mr. Lindsay

The number of students who left training colleges in 1937 is, approximately, 6,920; 2,190 men and 4,730 women. The number of these whose appointments in grant-aided schools have been notified to the Board up to 2nd November is 5,018 (1,337 men and 3,681 women). It is not possible to say what number of these appointments may he correctly described as permanent. Information regarding the number appointed in other schools is not at present available.
