HC Deb 10 November 1937 vol 328 cc1785-6W
Mr. Grenfell

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he is aware that the price of coal supplied to the Bournemouth Corporation has been raised from 29s. 3d. per ton in December, 1935, to 36s. 9d. per ton in September, 1937; and whether he will institute inquiries to ascertain the extent to which general prices of coal for internal consumption have been raised in this period?

Captain Crookshank

I was not aware of the price increase to which the hon. Member draws attention. With regard to the second part of the question, I have no power to control prices, but consumers who are aggrieved at any increase in coal prices which may result from the operation of the coal selling schemes, can refer their complaints to the Committees of Investigation set up under Section 5 of the Coal Mines Act, 1930.
